General Biology meets one of the three required lab sciences that are needed to graduate with a standard diploma. This class will introduce students to the main biological concepts of science including: ecology, evolution, microbiology, biochemistry, plants, animals and anatomy and physiology. This course is hands on and minds on. Students will learn to use evidence-based reasoning and will have the opportunity to improve their reading, writing and math skills in this course. The learning objectives for this course are based on the standards developed by the Virginia Department of Education.
The Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for this course can be found at http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/standards_docs/science/ This is a list of what the Commonwealth of Virginia determined should be covered in High School Biology and what will be tested on SOL tests at the end of the course.
