Objectives for the Weeks of May 11- May 22:

Lesson 4:  Powerful patterns. Discover why patterns are important in both historical and contemporary art.

Step 1. Students will read the scholastic art article powerful patterns.

 

Step 2. Students will complete a reading review based on the article.

 

Step 3: Students will use what they learned about decorative designs to make a bold artwork.  Step by step instructions and examples link located on teacher page.

 

*You may exchange your subject from figures (portraits) to another subject.  Example: An animal, a still life or something found in nature

Vocabulary: Pattern, collage, decorative art, layering, ornament, structure, ornate

Materials: Acrylic paint, watercolor, colored pencils, graphite pencil, pastels or oil pastels.  Paint is the preferred material but students are encouraged to use any materials that they have access to.
